The Four Main Purposes Of Your Fire Security System

Ace Fire & Security • 20 April 2023

Fire security systems are present in all of our homes and buildings. Keeping safe and being aware of the threat of a fire is extremely important. Keep reading to find out the four main purposes of your fire security system that keep you safe.

Detecting The Fire

Your fire alarm’s primary purpose is to detect the fire. Either by heat, or by smoke, your fire security system should be able to detect when a fire is present via its sensors.

Some fire alarms will have an automatic sprinkler system which is released in the event of a fire, as a safety precaution.

Alert People

When your fire alarm detects heat or smoke, it’s next job is to alert the occupants of the building. Having visible and audible alarms is a good safety measure to take, to help mobilise people and get them out of the building.

Strobing and an intensely audible fire alarm is usually the best combination to make people aware of the fire, and make it so that the alarm is impossible to ignore. You want to make sure that everyone in the building is aware of the fire.

It is important to note that each building will have a different type of notification system.

Manage Risk

Your fire alarm system can actually work to help you in the event of a fire. Many systems have control measures that are designed to reduce harm in an emergency situation.

Many fire systems will shut down your heating and cooling systems, shut down air conditioning and ventilation in an attempt to reduce the spread of smoke throughout the building. These are good protection measures that help to keep occupants safe.

Alert Authorities

The last thing your fire security system should do is to alert the authorities. Alerting the fire department will showcase the emergency and make sure that they are en route to the building.

This is useful as you may not be able to get to a phone, or think about contacting the authorities during the emergency. The fire department will put out the fire and help all of the occupants evacuate safely.
