Rural Security Tips - How to Protect Your Countryside Home

Ace Fire And Security Equipment • 23 November 2021

Many of us dream of our ideal house in the countryside, surrounded by open fields, beautiful woodlands and an array of wildlife. However, this secluded setting can make us feel vulnerable to crime and theft. While crime rates in rural areas are generally lower than in urban areas, there’s no harm in implementing security measures to feel safer in the countryside.

Protecting your home not only means protecting your assets, but also your family and can help offer some reassurance.

How to protect your rural home

CCTV

Having recorded footage of your home will allow you to know who is coming and going from your property as well as acting as a deterrent for anyone with malicious intent. There are many CCTV systems that will work for a domestic property and will give you greater peace of mind knowing that any suspicious activity will be caught on camera.

Intruder alarms

An effective alarm system will be highly effective at deterring intruders as well as sending an alert to you and the security system provider or even the police. This way, as soon as someone breaks into your property, the appropriate people will be made aware and the intruder is likely to flee as soon as possible. This helps keep you and your family safe, as well as protecting your property while you are away. Statistics show that a property is five times more likely to get burgled if there are no security measures in place.

Perimeter security

It’s worthwhile applying extra security measures to the perimeter of your home such as by installing gates and fencing. This makes it much harder for intruders to physically enter your property and often they will decide it isn’t worth it. It will also prevent intruders because they are more likely to be seen by passers by.

Utilise your neighbours

If you have neighbours close by, see if you can all work together to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. It helps to have a group chat to be able to discuss things that may seem concerning. For example, if there is a doorstep trader that doesn’t seem to be genuine, you can raise the alarm by sending everyone a message. That way everyone can keep an eye out for each other and everyone can stay safe.
